Our injection moulding machines are the driving force behind our business practice. These machines, which are also known as injection presses, enable us to conduct plastic injection moulding on a large scale and give us the ability to complete bigger projects while providing our injection moulding services to a larger customer base.
Every injection moulding machine consists of two primary components, namely the clamping unit and the injection unit. The clamping unit enables the mould to be mounted in either a horizontal or a vertical position. This provides options in terms of the design and allows for easy mounting regardless of the size or shape of the design. Vertical mounting can be ideal for certain niche applications as it takes advantage of gravity to increase the detail on the part which is being manufactured.
There are three main types of injection moulding machines. There are hydraulic, mechanical and electric plastic injection moulding machines each of which has its own pro’s and con’s.
Hydraulic injection moulding machines, for example, are the most commonly used machine throughout the world despite the fact that they do not deliver as precise a finish as the other applications. Mechanical systems on the other hand are extremely reliable but they require a system to regulate tonnage. This is due to the increase pressure of the injection which needs to be toggled so as not to blow the clamp. Finally, the electric injection moulding machine, or the electric press, cuts costs on energy saving, is more environmentally friendly, quieter, and faster and delivers higher accuracy, but it is much more expensive than the other two versions.
At Big Boy Plastics we ensure that our plastic injection moulding machines receive regular maintenance to ensure that we adhere to the high standard which we have set for our services.
